Rawlins Wyoming!

I arrived in Rawlins, Wyoming after a very long travel day. What google maps says is a three and a half hour drive by car took me over eight hours by bus and train with a bit of walking included for good measure. My day began with a short city bus ride to the train station. I took a very nice train to downtown Denver. After the train ride, I walked about a mile to the Greyhound bus station. I'll save you the details, but I have been in transit terminals in third world countries that are nicer than this bus station. On top of that, I lost track of how many times the ticket counter clerk had to call for security. Let's just say everyone was not a happy camper in the bus station.

When I went to the ticket counter to confirm my reservation and tag my backpack as luggage, I was told that the scheduled bus to Rawlins was out of service and they were "looking for another bus." The time for boarding came and went. The time for departure came and went. I was getting ready to leave the bus station for lunch when a bus rolled up and an announcement was made that we were leaving immediately. I boarded the bus with some of the most "interesting" people I've ever had the privilege to travel with and we were on our way. One individual was escorted to the bus by security. (If he is not safe enough to roam the terminal unsupervised, is putting him on the bus really a good idea?) Already an hour behind schedule, the passengers and the driver were not in the best mood. There was more than one harsh announcement threatening passengers they would be thrown off the bus for smoking. The bus had to turn around once and return to a previous stop because someone didn't get off at their destination. And there was one gentleman who visited the bus restroom more than a dozen times during the five hour bus ride. (I know because I was sitting next to it.)

Well...when I arrived in Rawlins, it was one of those kiss the ground moments and I was thankful and excited to be one step closer to hiking the CDT again. I quickly checked into my motel, picked up my supply box, ate dinner, packed, and then sat down to write this blog post. Tomorrow I'll be up at six for breakfast and then begin hiking back to Grants, New Mexico. The weather in Wyoming is in the mid to high 80's, and it should be clear for the next few days. I am looking forward to hiking through Colorado. I hear it is amazing!

Thank you again for following along on my adventure. I am excited to be hiking again!

Blessings
